Samantha's Place uses a BLACK Background to help reduce electricity use...

Recently, we found out some interesting facts around websites using a BLACK background (as we do)
compared to any other colour and the amounts of power required to generate those other colours.

First some information on the power consumption of your monitor:
CRT monitors or TV tube style monitors consume on average 10.8 watts more power per hour to generate a colour background
than to make a BLACK background.

LCD screens use approx. the same amount of power 100% of the time they are powered,
since the light inside is always on, but is blocked to make a BLACK image on the screen.

We went back and looked at all of our page views of our website, the average time spent on the pages and then factored in the % of CRT monitors vs. LCD's in use in the market place during those years....
